Then, they noticed the hay bales and begged to climb on them. Every boy's dream right?
After climbing the hay we all went to the cow pasture. My Uncle had saved a hay bale to show us how he feeds the cows. The children helped untie the bale after he put it in the bin. We thought the cows would come right to us to eat, but we learned they are a bit shy around strangers.
Fortunately, my Aunt had saved the chore of bottle feeding a calf. Elizabeth was the first to feed him, but when he knocked her down she didn't want anything more to do with him. Poor girl! We had forgotten that a calf will punch their Momma so they can get more milk. Very natural reaction. Everyone else enjoyed getting to pet the calf and they carefully avoided any future punches.
James' favorite part came when we went to feed the gigantic catfish at the pond. He was thrilled to actually be able to see the fish come to the surface.
See those huge mouths!!
We played there for a little while and then out came the four wheelers. We teamed up in pairs and rode out to see the rest of the cows and land. It was a beautiful fall day. Many of the trees were turning orange, red and gold which made for a scenic ride. Our children had never been on a four wheeler before so this was all very exciting!
During all these activities we learned about the cows, their habits and how my Uncle and Aunt care for them. They patiently answered all our questions and made it all so much fun!
Thanks for a wonderful day and we can hardly wait to come back to visit again soon!
