Importance of Dinnertime

I love this article I received from Leanne Ely author of Saving Dinner. It is a good reminder to me that the daily routine of cooking dinner is important.

"We’ve all heard the saying, “home is where the heart is”. It’s true. We all strive to make our homes beautiful and a sanctuary away from the strife that fills our world. We need that. We need a safe haven to call our own and a place of tranquility with our beloved family.
The family meal represents this as we come to the table. It’s our gathering place and an opportunity to nurture both body and soul. There is a sort of calm that overtakes the participants as we smell the good smells, sit in our own chairs and wait for the blessing. How wonderful a refuge for weary souls!
Perfection is not necessary in family meals. It doesn’t need to be a Kodak moment every day or even any day. It just needs to be a regularly occurring event in your household; daily, if at all possible. The results of such a routine speak for themselves with your children: grades improve, children’s self worth and self esteem improve, they are less likely to use drugs, have premarital sex or smoke. Years of studies have shown this to be true. Not only that, but everyone’s security and connection will strengthen and this is what builds strong families."
