Learning Experiences

I thought some of you might like to hear about our most recent learning experiences. Our Bible verse for the week is Hebrews 13:17 "Obey your leaders they keep watch over you."

James(5) has been working on reading and writing. He is going through a Hooked on Phonics workbook. He is reading 3 letter words very well now and has made it to words like cats, hips, gaps, fins etc.., He has read 4 Hop books that come with the program as well as 3 other Bob books. He loves it when it is time to read a new book.
In writing we have worked on the letters L, F, E, H,T,I,U,C,O,Q, and G. Our math has been working through counting. We use pennies to count. Social Studies is learning some of the names of the states. Mostly those states that we know people in or have come up in conversation through other experiences. We are also learning what people do in various jobs. He and T. have also been learning how to fold washcloths and towels and making the bed.

Timothy(3) has been reviewing his colors, shapes, working on holding the crayon the correct way. Counting pennies. Learning what comes first, next, last. Recognizing alphabet and the sounds of each letter. Computer skills. Cutting skills.

Caleb(1) has been learning we do not eat crayons. (Ok, so he hasn't actually learned this yet . . .it is a work in progress). How to close doors (he has this one down really well). Not to cross the blue line and coming to momma when he is called. He has mastered clapping his hands, waving bye,bye and walking.

Timothy and James are attending a sports skills class. They are excited that they will be working on baseball skills in the next few weeks. Our home has become a batting range. They use Caleb's soft bowling ball (Thanks Aunt. L!) and throw it at a cardboard bat to hit it. We also recently watched a Charlie Brown episode. It would describe our efforts at baseball at this point pretty well. They are having fun with it though and that is what counts.
