Dinosaur Museum, Trip to Lake

Our oldest boys have some interest in fossils. James found a rock that has tiny holes in it in the front yard and has declared it to be a fossil. He has a fascination with trying to dig to find dinosaur bones.

For our family outing yesterday dh found a small museum that has real dinosaur tracks embedded in rock. Most of the tracks were under construction to be preserved, but we did get to see a few of them. The real gem at the museum was a sand box where the children could dig for fossils. James and Timothy both found fossils and brushed them just like real archaeologists. Even Caleb did a bit of brushing. He liked it so much it was difficult to get him to release the brush.

The museum is near a lake so part of the museum was dedicated to the different varieties of fish found in that lake. So, after the museum we drove to the lake to have a look. As soon as we saw the lake everyone was wishing we had a boat to get in. The weather was perfect for boating and swimming.

We sat on a boat dock for a little while. The boys gathered tiny shells amidst the rocks and then we walked along the shoreline. James got to see a fish (although it was dead). It still made him excited because he now has proof there is fish in the lake. Timothy enjoyed putting a stick in the water every chance he got. Caleb just enjoyed walking around. On the way out of the park we were able to see 3 deer. They didn't seem to mind our vehicle being so close to them. We stopped to see them and they just looked at us. They are such graceful creatures. To cap off our day, we took the very scenic tour back to our home.
