Today we visited a Folk Festival. They had a ton of booths to demonstrate how people lived in the past. Primarily during the Pioneer time period.
Here are the activities we participated in today.
  • churned butter
  • made candles
  • made bricks
  • made corn husk dolls
  • made bird feeders
  • sewed a quilt square
  • attended a lemonade party
  • saw period weaponry
  • saw period farm tools
  • made clay items (T made a cross, J made a clam)
  • rode on a hay ride
  • participated in ax throwing (OK, so this was just Daddy - and he made it stick the first throw - Yeah!!)
  • practiced using a yo yo
  • helped build a stone wall
  • saw how sausage was made
  • saw basket weaving
  • saw a dry goods store
  • saw a Ranger's Office
  • saw the Confederate and Union camps
  • saw the gunfire from Muskets
  • saw how cotton is made from a miniature cotton gin
  • saw the blacksmith making tools
  • saw some reptiles native to this area
  • saw a Tee pee and a Covered Wagon
  • saw canning (how the bottom of a chair is made)
  • saw bees making honey (and bought some to eat later - Yummy!)
  • saw a log being sawed

Aren't you tired now after reading that. :) Here are the items we were able to bring home.

When asked what their favorite activities were - the boys unanimously agreed it was the Musket being shot and receiving a flag (from the Confederate camp). They also thought the bees were neat.
