I have not blogged the last 6 months of 2013 because quite frankly it was quite stressful. Gregory was job searching while also working part-time at a job with irregular hours. The job required him to be gone at odd hours and many times overnight. During this period of transition everything non-essential was thrown out the window. We did manage to continue our schooling, but it was hard.
Gregory did end up getting a wonderful new job - out of state. He had to begin immediately so we said our goodbyes to him for a time. The children and I stayed behind to pack up and help sell the house. Wow! What an adventure that was! I have to say I realized during that time period how very big the older children had grown. They were able to do so much more than I would have thought possible. They were such a blessing helping me to pack, help with the littles and continuing their schoolwork. Some weeks we had help from nearby family and some weeks we were alone. Poor Gregory was all alone in a new state. That was tough. I think the hardest thing on all of us was the fact that we were separated. God helped see us through though. The last few weeks before we moved we had tons of family and a few friends come to help finish the process. The kids had a blast visiting with them. We really couldn't have completed everything without their help.
Before we could even list the house there were some unfinished projects that had to be completed and some minor repairs that had to be done. I am so thankful that my father who is a contractor was able to do most of these repairs.
The little ones begged to help with painting something. Little did the 2 youngest know they were actually painting with water. Thankfully that did not minimize the fun.
Timothy taped together 143 boxes sometimes he even had a lovely assistant. James would help me to pack the boxes, watch Matthew and move boxes to the garage as they were packed.
Matthew helped pack as he was able. Mostly he was my excuse to take a break from packing. He excels at that job.
Robin and Lisa helped us by driving one of the trucks, sprucing up the flower beds and general whatever needed to be done. My sisters came also and helped to finish the packing by staying up way later in the night than we should have been. Then they surprised us by following us to the new house and helping to unpack a few boxes.
On the last moving day, Meemaw was our official baby holder and chocolate supplier. There were no other chairs or beds in the house so Matthew climbed up in her lap and went to sleep. It was amazing he was able to sleep with all the commotion that was going on in the house at that time.
After looking through my photos I realized I didn't get many photos of the dads. Let the record show that they too helped. It was just too hard to pin them down to get a photo. While we were all very tired from this process we were thankful that we had family and friends that loved us enough to go through this stress with us. THANK YOU!
Eventually we finished loading all the stuff in the vehicles. We packed up the children, fish, and cat and said goodbye to our beloved home. We drove all through the night. What a welcome sight this house was after a long drive.
While it was sad to say goodbye to things that were familiar to us we know that God opened this opportunity for us. We rest in the fact that we are where He wants us to be. We look forward to exploring our new city and welcoming visitors as the time allows in our new home.
