We have visited many aquariums all over the country, but for years he has wanted to visit the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. He especially wanted to see the whale sharks since they are the only aquarium that has them.
His exact quote when we were standing in line to go into the aquarium was that he was about to "rocket to the sky".
His excitement was contagious. It really was neat to be able to touch and see all of the various marine life. We spent most of the day there. Here are some highlights.
One of the touch pools. This one had small manta rays and blue bell sharks. James kept trying and trying to touch a shark because he had never touched one before, but unfortunately the sharks enjoyed staying near the bottom out of the reach of hands.
Another touch pool. This one had sea urchins, star fish, mussell shells and a few fish in it. Elizabeth got to touch one of the sea urchins. The aquarium was so crowded that we had the rare priveledge of eating in the ocean ballroom, a room that is normally for rent only. It had a huge view to the ocean voyager tank which houses four whale sharks. We made sure the children sat where they could see the fish swim by.
James just wanted me to take a photo of these Japenese spider crabs. They are so huge!
The aquarium houses four Beluga whales who were doing a mini-show while we were touring the Coldwater Quest area.
The Ocean Voyager section has a large tunnel you go through. You look up and see whale sharks, manta rays, groupers, sharks of various types, and a host of other types of fish and sea creatures. Elizabeth was asleep the first time we went through so we had to go back through again. It was so much fun to see her reactions to the fish swimming overhead.
We even stopped for awhile and just watched them swim by. James had opportunity to ask lots of questions to the aquarium workers at this point.
When we entered this part of the Tropical Diver exhibit James' eyes were so excited. He loved getting to see the coral reef up close and personal. I think this is the most beautiful part of the entire aquarium.
Timothy and Caleb also enjoyed the aquarium. Timothy's favorite part was the tunnel in the Ocean Voyager section.
Caleb's favorite part of the aquarium was the various types of touch pools. The children had opportunity to touch sea urchins, manta rays, star fish, shrimp, sea anemones, horse shoe crabs, and shells.
We are so blessed to have been able to enjoy this experience together!
