Surgery
The weekend after we attended the homeschool conference, Elizabeth had to have eye surgery. She was born with severe esotropia which basically means her eyes turned inward. Last year she had 1 surgery which corrected her right eye, but her left eye was uncooperative. Eye therapy was not an option for her so we had to do another surgery which will hopefully correct the left eye. It was an outpatient surgery so as far as surgeries go it was minor. I still had to remind myself often of Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation,by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God." In the weeks before the surgery I was nervous, but God gave me peace on the day of the surgery. I am so thankful for the many prayers that were being prayed on her behalf.
Before the surgery, Elizabeth was just as playful as could be. I was a little concerned about her being upset when they took her away, but as it turned out she was fine. The hospital we had the surgery at takes the children into a hallway that is filled with toys. The child chooses a toy and then a nurse takes them off to surgery. Elizabeth chose an adorable little doll and was totally enthralled with it as the nurse took her away. The Doctor is very pleased with how well the surgery went. Although we will not know if the eye will stay in alignment until after 8 weeks things are looking very good. To me, the eye still looks horrible because I can see the scar. The Doctor said that should heal to where it will not be so noticeable.
Poor baby slept all through recovery and then all day and night that first day. The second day she was awake, but wouldn't let Mom do anything without fussing. We spent the entire day cuddling. She is much better now and except for how the scar looks you wouldn't know she had surgery. Well, that and the fact that all of our baby dolls and stuffed animals now have to receive eye drops on a daily basis.
