Just An Ordinary Day

I hope when I am old I can remember some of the little joys of ordinary days.  Today is one of those days.  Just ordinary.  Yet, there are elements in it that just make me smile.

When I woke up this morning I wasn't ready to get up.  Pregnancy and sleep don't seem to work well together for me so I am often tired in the mornings now.  Two of the boys were already up and playing.  I could hear them laughing while I was still laying in bed.  I got up and went down to work on breakfast.  By the time our breakfast was layed out the other children were awake and ready to eat.

After breakfast we got dressed and then met at the couch for Bible class.  We studied Samson today so it was a high interest story for the boys particularly Caleb.  He is fascinated by Samson's strength.  Perhaps it is because he is the youngest boy?

While the oldest boys went off to begin their independent school work I found a coloring page for Caleb and Elizabeth.  http://www.bible-printables.com/Coloring-Pages/Old-Testament/10-OT-024-samson.htm  Caleb was thrilled!  For some reason though he decided the lion should be red.  All red!

Afterwards, the youngers got to work with the pattern blocks.  I was back and forth between all the children at this point.  Today's school work was peaceful.  Everyone was able to do their work without complaint.  Not all days are like that.

They got a few minutes to play outside while lunch finished and then we ate and had quiet rest time.  Normally the readers read during quiet rest time or sometimes play quiet games.  Today James requested to watch blue planet which we had checked out from the library.  So, the boys all did that.  James doesn't just watch though.  He is actively engaged in learning as much as he can about marine life.  So much so that he tries to learn about it daily.  We recently bought him a coloring book that has text for high school/college age microbiology students.  He now does it as part of his independent work daily.  (By the way, not something his parents require of him - he is motivated on his own to do this).

When rest time was over we all went outside and the boys played tag and other active games.  Then, I got them to help me begin the process of trimming the hedges.  They love to do that.  Elizabeth and I eventually decided to come inside.  I got a toy box that hasn't been played with in awhile.  She found some new purses and a set of play keys and has been packing and repacking her purses and "going bye bye" for half an hour now.  So precious!
As you can see not a lot of housework has been done today, but things have been peaceful which is always a good thing.
