First Day of School!

Today we began our school year.  Here is a few moments of our day.  I wanted today to be a special celebration of the kickoff to our school year.  We have never really celebrated the first day of school before.  So, we started with one of the boys favorite breakfasts.  Cinnamon Rolls!  Gregory requested extra icing so, that is why these are so laden with it.  After cinnamon rolls we had our Bible class and went over all the things we expected to be covering this year.  Then we reviewed Proverbs 2:1-6 and discussed where our knowledge and wisdom comes from including who to call on for help.  Then, we measured, weighed and took pictures to document our growth at this age.
Here is my Third Grader this year.
 My 2nd grader
My new-to-school preschooler.  He is so eager to start.  In reality he often sat in on our read alouds last year, but just as he was interested.
Not in school, but just wanted to get in on the fun of picture taking. :)
 The crew ready to begin!!
To commemorate our day, I put together a fun back to school booklet I got off of Enchanted Learning.  The children recorded their name, date, age and things they enjoyed as well as a hand print and self - portrait. That covered language arts, spelling, art and handwriting for the day.

The M & M's were part of our "special" day.  They got to munch on them throughout our lessons.
It was a pretty light school day as far as school work goes.  For Math we just reviewed our flash master skills.  Timothy is still in subtraction facts and James is working on Multiplication facts.  The boys were very excited about beginning Spanish this year so I allowed them to do the first lesson in Rosetta Stone.  We practiced violin, had quiet reading time (nap time for under 5) and outdoor playtime.
It turned out to be a wonderful first day of school and we have now had our official kick off!  The rest of this week our real school schedule will begin as violin lessons begin and sports.
