Cooking With Kids

While working in the kitchen today James and I were getting tonight's meal ready. He loves the opportunity to help. Especially when it comes to measuring ingredients and cracking eggs. Now that is the prize above all prizes. There is something magical to a child about cracking eggs. Well, my kids anyway.

So, we were preparing Sue Gregg's meatloaf recipe. James cracked the eggs, measured ingredients and stirred them together. I have never allowed the kids to handle the raw meat, but today I thought, "why not." I was using ground turkey. He tried to dump it in there without touching at first. It wasn't working.

Me: "Just pick it up with your hands and dump it in the bowl."

James: "The whole thing?"

Me: "Yes."

James: "With my hands?"

At this point I am thinking about how his Daddy acts with raw meat and eagerly looking forward to what's next.

Me: "Yes, just pick it up and put it in. You can wash your hands after."

James: (While transferring meat to bowl) "EEEEWWW, EWWWWW, EWWWW."

Yep, like his Daddy. :)
