Homemade Bread - Yummy!

When I was a little girl my father used to occasionally buy dough from the freezer section of the grocery. We would take it home and let it rise and bake it for a special treat. It was especially good to get to eat it hot from the oven with lots of butter on it. (Okay, we probably used margarine, but it was delicious.)

Now that I am grown I still enjoy smelling a fresh loaf of bread cooking. Who doesn't? The last several years I have been baking bread on occasion using a bread machine. As I study about healthy eating I am learning about the importance of cutting out refined sugars which includes white flour. In the past, I have made whole wheat bread in my bread machine with disastrous results. Some ladies encouraged me to try making it by hand and I would see improvement.
This is my first attempt and I was quite pleased! I was in a hurry when I divided the dough and didn't divide it evenly hence the burned part at the top, but it didn't affect the taste. For my first try, I did half whole wheat/half white flour because I wanted to see how it would taste. Can you tell I really didn't expect it to turn out? It is so light compared to my past tries in the bread machine. It didn't take long like I thought it would and really was pretty easy. Next time I am going to try making it 100 % whole wheat.
